Techland's Dying Light 2: Stay Human hides a secret Easter egg that pays homage to another great zombie series: Resident Evil, and its heroes Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy. Gaming outlets and publications have had their hands on the game for some time in order to review the highly-anticipated sequel, and while Dying Light 2 reviews praise the gameplay, its story elements have been criticized, though this doesn't seem to have impacted the number of Easter eggs found throughout the world.

Warning: this article contains mild Easter egg-related spoilers for Dying Light 2: Stay Human.

Dying Light 2 has suffered from a troubled development, with many believing the title might not ever make it to store shelves. Following multiple delays, the game is finally set to release on February 4 across PC and consoles. Aiming to evolve on the world laid out by its predecessor, Dying Light 2 promises to deliver more realism, more terror, and more parkour. Unfortunately for Techland, copies of the game reached some fans ahead of release, with the developer warning Dying Light 2 players to wait for the day-one patch.

While many are still waiting to play Dying Light 2, those with copies of the game are already sharing some of its features and Easter eggs, including one that pays homage to Resident Evil. As spotted by GameSpew, the callback to the iconic zombie series that arguably started it all can be found when meeting two characters, named Leon and Chris. The publication notes that Dying Light 2's Leon bears a striking resemblance to Leon S. Kennedy from the RE series, while a joke about punching seemingly references Chris Redfield's iconic Resident Evil 5 boulder scene. GameSpew's suspicions were confirmed when finding a dog tag, featuring the name of Chris Redfield himself. An image of the dog tag was shared to Twitter by GameSpew.com.

As one of the biggest horror franchises in gaming, Resident Evil Easter eggs are quite common as other developers pay tribute to the beloved zombie series. Dying Light 2's zombies, known mostly as Infected, have fallen victim to the Harran Virus, as opposed to the various T-Virus infections seen throughout RE. While the two series tackle their outbreaks differently, they each offer a terrifying experience when the undead hunt down players throughout their adventure.

With Dying Light 2's official launch now imminent, it's just a matter of hours before patient fans will finally be able to explore the game world in full. With a Resident Evil Easter egg already discovered, there's likely even more secrets to be found within the huge map of Dying Light 2.
