Summary

Moulin Rouge! is a musical/drama/romance film by writer/director Baz Lurhman (Lucy, Elvis, The Great Gatsby.) Ewan McGregor stars as Christian, a young poet in the 1900s who moves to Paris while lamenting the death of his love. Christian's writing talents impress a performance troupe and set them off to the Moulin Rouge to gain the attention of its top showgirl, Satine (Nicole Kidman), and Harold Zidler, the man in charge of the show, so that he could write their performance. However, Christian becomes smitten with Satine, who is currently avoiding the advances of the Duke. Satine's life is tumultuously torn between a relentless Duke with whom she shares no affection and Christian, with whom she begins to be charmed - but Zidler's goal is to use Satine to convince the Duke to convert the Moulin Rouge into a theater. Moulin Rouge! also has had a stage adaptation that still performs as of 2022 - but the film was released on May 9 2001.
